A Special Fly Rod

Here it is in action!

This past weekend my Thomas and Thomas Rod saw a ton of action. Just wanted to do a shout out to thank Mr. Marcus Stetson of Simple Pleasures Guide service in Western Massachusetts. He has guided me on the Deerfield River, taught me some great knots, and also given me helpful tips with how to read currents and place your fly!! I am addicted!!!! Tight Lines.

The "bear" necessities...

If you are a die-hard fly fisherman/woman you all know what happens with some of your equipment, especially when you first get to the stream and your excited and you have tunnel vision of rising trout, you LOSE things!!! Thats why I choose to wear Orvis Sunglasses, which are $50 and come in handy! These glasses will produce great results, are inexpensive, and you won't be too upset if you happen to break, scratch, or totally loose them. Just think, those lost glasses could be your $200 Oakleys...which happened to me!! These glasses will help you see fish rise to your hares ear, notice a trout you spooked, or last but not least for Guides who purchase alot of sunglasses to provide for their clients if they happen to forget, lose, or break their own glasses!

A half day in paradise!

Here are a few pictures of some trout I caught this weekend, I fished for a half a day and also played "guide". The day started at about 7:45 a.m. and we fished until noon. The stream conditions on this stream were just about perfect with the sky overcast and the temps. in the 70's. The Big Green was chocolate milk from the rain, but this particular stream does well when put up against a lot of rain and clears up quickly!

Off time

When you can't be on your favorite trout stream, I would recommend taking the time to fish the nearest pond or lake! Not only does this allow you to stay on top of your casting, you might get into some great fishing. During the work weeks of the summer months when I can't be in SW Wisconsin fly fishing for trout, I normally fly fish for bass the last hour and a 1/2 before dark, slapping deer hair bugs on top water and popping them until I rise a bass! Most rises will be fast and the fish will hammer your top water fly of choice! I normally fish w/ my 5 wt. Rod and I use a weedless green/orange deer hair bug. Look for submerged logs, high water levels that go into the banks wooded edges, docks, and any other structure that will hold bass! It's a fun and relaxing time to hop in a canoe or kayak and catch some Bass, the winds will be dying and the water will be calm, and you get to catch a sunset before you have to get back and get some shut eye for the next day of work!

2010 Trout Season

Alright, so the 2010 trout season is off and running! Weather has been fantastic and this week the temps are going to be high! Look for fish moving up into the runs and feeding off insects!! I went out the other day and hooked some fish on a small midge patern and also emergers that were swung in front of them!! Waters were crystal clear! Stay tuned, I will be posting some videos of some trout within the next couple weeks~ Seth

Tippets & Tails Guide Service

I have been playing with the idea of creating a guide service for about a year now, and I had made a page on facebook; called Tippets & Tails Guide Service! I just recently created it live, and have been slowly getting some "fans". I am fly fishing in the Driftless area just about everyday that I can during the season, and whenever I am not working, so I thought that it would be a good idea to take people out and show them my style of fly fishing and what I have taught myself from 5 years of fly fishing on my own. Check out my facebook page, browse through some of the pics, and if you would like to go fishing give me a shout!
